Entry is free with Zilker paid admission.
Steve Smith, a retired ER doctor, avid gardener and amateur herbalist, will be giving a presentation on cultivating turmeric in Austin. Steve has been an advocate for turmeric for many years due to its many potent medicinal properties. After consuming it often for many years, he decided to give growing it a try and found it to be very suited to our climate.
The presentation will include the process of growing, harvesting, processing, and storing turmeric as well as how to construct a self-wicking bed. He will offer a few methods on ways to incorporate turmeric into your diet.
Also, we will be concocting a turmeric “elixir” and tasting other treats made from turmeric. Bring a jar: 8 oz – 12 oz for the “elixer”.
Please first read about turmeric here. There are a few situations where you may not want to use turmeric.
And if you have any seeds you want to share, please bring them to the meeting.
